Twinings of London Energize Matcha Cranberry & Lime Green Tea + Alcoholic version

At this year’s Taste of Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival, we were delighted to find TEA at one of the food booths! At the Trowel & Trellis Hosted by Impossible Foods booth in Showcase Plaza you can find the Twinings of London Energize Matcha Cranberry & Lime Green tea, and a version with Hanger 1 Makrut Lime Vodka Served in a Mason Jar, both are iced.

Our first impression was positive, as the teas are a beautiful pink color with a wedge of  lime in it, they looked so refreshing! The sizing of the cups they were served in seemed off; the alcoholic version was a pretty decent sized plastic mason jar, and the non-alcoholic was in a smaller 6-8 oz. cup, which seemed odd and we figured for the $4.50 price it would be a larger cup of iced tea.

However, the flavor of the tea itself was pleasant and fruity and not too sweet, which is good because usually getting iced tea out somewhere is way too sweet for us. The drink is only sweetened with juice and no sugar. They threw in the word matcha in the name of the tea but there was no evidence of any matcha in either of the drinks, perhaps they added a very tiny amount because this is a known buzzword. Matcha is powdered green tea, usually from Japanese tea, and if anyone has had it they will tell you it is a very strong, grassy flavor. The green tea taste was very mellow and the dominant flavors were cranberry and lime which makes a very nice iced tea.

In the alcoholic version, the vodka paired really well with the cranberry and lime flavors of the tea. This was very much like a less sweet version of a simple cocktail of vodka with cranberry juice and lime, so the flavors all went together well. There was very little sign of green tea in the taste, much less of the matcha that Twinings claims is in it.

Later in the day we did see the Energize Matcha Cranberry & Lime Green tea boxes for sale in the Twinings tea shop in the UK pavilion. While we are always happy to see tea represented, we were a little disappointed in the sizing of the non-alcoholic version of the iced tea and the lack of matcha in the tea. Although it was refreshing, we probably would not order this again.

This is something that you can easily make at home though! We have seen this tea from Twinings at our local grocery store and the only other ingredient is white cranberry-strawberry juice.

8oz of white cranberry-strawberry juice

Garnish with lime
