Epcot Flower & Garden vegan food review

As tea people, we are always excited to expand our palate and try new foods. And of course our favorite place to do that is at Epcot! Follow along out food adventures at the Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival 2021.

Grilled Baby Vegetables with Hummus Cream and Red Pepper Coulis

Flavor Full Kitchen

This dish had such a lovely presentation and really gives you some fresh garden vibes. The veggies had a wonderful charred taste with a light crisp sweetness. Everything still had a nice crunch and wasn’t over done… except for the eggplant. Sadly the eggplant was just a flimsy mush. I would have preferred some more zucchini or maybe even fresh cucumber to contrast the grilled veggies.   

 

The dishes with this one were unfortunately not very consistent. The amount of hummus and some of the vegetable sizes were pretty drastically different. Obviously, some differences are fine, these are plants after all, but the one on the left is noticeably sad. Now, the one pictured on the left did actually start with a carrot, but it was very tiny and as soon as it was handed to me, the wind actually blew it away. I told the cast member what had happened, and she just stared at me, maybe she didn’t hear me? I was pretty bummed. 

 

Overall though, I would definitely get this dish again. I am going to assume that the inconsistency issues were just because it was early in the festival.

Potato Pancakes with House-made Apple Sauce

Bauernmarkt: Farmer’s Market (Germany)

These were so amazing! This was definitely one of our favorite dishes that we have tried so far. The potato cakes were fluffy and crisp without being dense or oily. Honestly, they were pretty perfect. And at first, I didn’t know how I would like them with the applesauce, but I was surprised how it gave the dish a rich buttery almost caramel-like vibe. I hope they bring these back again because I will be needing some more.

Pineapple Skewer with Tajin Seasoning

Refreshment Outpost

Let me start by saying pineapples are one of my favorite fruits, but this was just not it. The pineapple was clearly from a can and was pretty sad. The tajin spice tasted mostly like salt and lime so the overall effect was quite puckering. Wouldn’t get again for the price. Now if it was grilled pineapple and the spice had more chili peppers, I would be getting that every time!

Lemon Magdalena Cake with Fig Compote and Sangria Gel

Taste of Marrakesh (Morocco)

We are big fans of figs, so this dish was a pretty obvious choice for us. The lemon cake was tart, rich, and dense perfectly pairing with the sweet sticky figs. The real star of the show was the sangria gel that had a lovely soft sweet wine taste. The astringency in the sangria gel helped balance out some of the sweetness from the figs.

Sope de Chorizo: Plant-based Ground Chorizo on Fried Corn Dough with Black Beans and Avocado Mousse

Jardin de Fiestas (Mexico)

This dish was pretty delicious but a bit on the oily side for us. The fried corn dough was a bit like a dense oil sponge, but it might have been a little old and just sitting for too long. The flavors had a nice kick or heat and the avocado mousse was very bright and fun. I will definitely be giving this one a second chance.

Grilled Street Corn on the Cob with Savory Garlic Spread

I was really looking forward to this one as the curry grilled corn in Animal Kingdom is one of my all time favorites. Unfortunately, I found it a bit disappointing. The tofu cheese crumbles were really dry and tasted much more like breadcrumbs. I might have to try this one again though because looking at some other photos, we might have just gotten a bad batch. However, I doubt it will be as good as my beloved curry corn.

Lavender Pot de Crème with Blueberry Cake, Pink Peppercorn, and Lime Whipped Cream

The pot de creme itself was very creamy but was a little too heavy with the lavender taste for me and was overly floral and almost soapy. It seemed like the heavy sweetness from the white chocolate was almost there as a way to combat this issue with the lavender. The blueberry cake bottom and the jelly was absolutely scrummy. The whipped cream provided a nice light texture to contrast the thicker creme. The pink peppercorns were very pretty but didn’t really seem to go with the lavender. Overall, I would definitely get this dish again and was thrilled to see such a creative vegan option.

Boneless Impossible Korean Short Rib with Cilantro-Lime Rice, Danmuji Slaw, and Kimchee Mayonnaise

We were pleasantly surprised by this dish! The glaze on the short rib was sweet and savory and had a nice caramelized sticky quality. The slaw added a nice crunch and the rice just made this feel like more of a complete meal. I didn’t really pick up on any cilantro and there was a fairly light amount of the mayo, so it didn’t add much here – I do wish there was a little more of the mayo. And I am always excited about baby bok choy! It has such a nice buttery taste that really elevated the dish. 

 

I was worried that it might be too meaty for us, because sometimes these fake meats can be a bit overwhelming, but the dish was well balanced with the veggies and rice.

Pineapple Promenade (Showcase Plaza)

We were so happy to find out that the Garden Graze is all plant based options! I have always wanted to do one of these tasting scavenger hunts and I was pretty pumped to get all of my stamps. To get the complimentary dole whip (which is the same disney classic that we know and love) you have to get 5 stamps which you can get from any of the following snacks.

From everything we tried so far at the flower and garden festival this year, our top three favorites were the Lemon Magdalena Cake, the Potato Pancakes, and the Korean Short Rib.
